A common tragedy in Hifz classes is the student who memorizes 10 Juz but forgets the first 5 completely. This happens due to a focus on 'Sabaq' (New Lesson) at the expense of 'Manzil' (Revision). The human brain is designed to forget unused information. To combat this, we recommend the '3-Revision Rule'.
Rule 1: The Daily 3x3
When you memorize a new page, it is stored in short-term memory. To move it to mid-term memory, you must recite that specific page at least 3 times a day for the next 3 days, separate from your regular revision. This 'locks in' the new data.
Rule 2: The 1/7th Principle
Once you have memorized a significant portion (e.g., 5 Juz), you must complete a full revision of your accumulated Hifz every 7 days. If you have 7 Juz, read 1 Juz a day. If you skip this, the 'weak' pages will inevitably fade.
Rule 3: Prayer Revision
The ultimate test of retention is Salah. Recite your daily revision portions in your Sunnah and Nafl prayers. If you can read it while standing in prayer without holding the Mushaf, you truly own that page.
