One of the most heartbreaking emails we receive starts with: "My son hates going to Quran class." It is a crisis for any Muslim parent. But remember, they usually don't hate the Quran; they hate the *experience* associated with it.
Diagnose the Root Cause
Is the teacher too strict? Is the class time conflicting with their favorite cartoon or downtime? Is the lesson too long? Sit with your child and ask open-ended questions: "What part of the class makes you feel tired?" Often, a simple shift in timing or a 5-minute break in the middle can change everything.
The 'Positive Association' Rule
Never use Quran reading as a punishment ("Go read Quran because you hit your sister!"). This wires the brain to associate Allah's book with trouble. Instead, pair it with positives. "After we finish our Surah, we will make hot chocolate together." Build a dopamine loop around the worship.
