Imam Al-Ghazali said, "The Quran is like a bride; it does not unveil its beauty to those who do not respect it." Adab (etiquette) is the key to that unveiling.
1. Purity (Taharah)
While reading from memory without Wudu is permissible, holding the Mushaf (physical copy) requires Wudu. Physical purity prepares the heart for spiritual purity.
2. Facing the Qibla
It is recommended to sit facing the Kaaba with dignity, not reclining arrogantly. This physical posture reflects inner humility.
3. Starting with Isti'adhah and Basmalah
Always begin by seeking refuge in Allah from Satan (A'udhu billah...) and beginning in the name of Allah. This creates a spiritual shield around your recitation.
4. Reacting to the Verses
When you read a verse of mercy, ask Allah for it. When you read a verse of punishment, seek refuge. Make the recitation an interactive conversation with your Lord.
