Why Ijazah Matters in Quran Teaching

In the West, we look for university degrees. In Islamic tradition, we look for 'Ijazah' (Permission). An Ijazah is a license authorizing the holder to transmit the Quran exactly as they learned it from their master.

The Sanad (Unbroken Chain)

Every holder of an Ijazah can name their teacher, their teacher's teacher, all the way back to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Angel Jibreel. This chain (Sanad) creates a heavy responsibility. A teacher with Ijazah is not guessing how to pronounce a word; they are replicating a 1400-year-old sound recording.

Quality Control

To earn an Ijazah often takes years of reading the entire Quran from memory to a Sheikh with zero mistakes. When you hire an Ijazah-holder, you are hiring a master of the craft.
